In this document, Amnesty International offers an evaluation of the implementation of recommendations made to Ecuador in its previous Universal Periodic Review (UPR) regarding the protection of human rights defenders, free, prior and informed consent of Indigenous peoples, and decriminalization of abortion. The submission also assesses the national human rights framework on a policy to protect human rights defenders, the legal reform on decriminalization of abortion on the grounds of rape, and a decree that allowed the Armed Forces to use lethal force in the control of protests.
